Sean Hoy shares talent with students

Sean Hoy, a cartoonist, visited Mrs. Anderson's class to teach students about drawing single pane cartoons.  He was visiting his daughter's classroom and decided to share his talents with her classmates.  The students had a lot of fun learning the ins and outs of drawing a cartoon.  There is more to a comic than meets the eye!  A lot of pre-planning goes in to a cartoon.

Pioneer Life

Pikes Peak or Bust!  Pioneer communities like trading posts and sod houses sprang up in the western territories of the U.S. during the 1800's.  CIS students watched a video about the difficulties of daily life in these settlements, from cooking in a log cabin to tending animals on a cattle drive.  We discussed how geography affected the economy and settlement patterns of this nation ranging from "Wild West" boom towns to the founding of San Francisco as a major seaport.  Students discovered why the term "pioneer spirit" is used today to mean great courage and determination.

Great weather makes recess fun!

Students enjoy jumping rope during recess.  The warm weather has given ample time this winter to improve their skills and get great exercise.  They are even trying Double Dutch!

CIA Beach Party

A Beach Party in February?
That's right.  The Groundhog may have seen his shadow, but that didn't get these kids down.  Students recently spent the afternoon surfing in the gym and eating pineapple and coconut.  Mrs. Grant and Mrs. Swinney keep the kids busy each afternoon with with great learning activities and tutorials.  If you haven't attended Chadron Intermediate School's After School Program (CIA), than you should.

Christmas Sing-Along

Students prepared for Christmas by singing along to music by area cowboys William Selby and Craig Wyatt.  Every year Mrs. Dickerson invites students, staff, and parents to a jovial sing-along in the gym.  This year we were excited to have the fiddle and guitar serenade the students to songs like Frosty the Snowman and Jingle Bells
