| Dr. Schaeffer discusses how important it is to learn to read with the 3rd Grade |
There are also many interesting things in the final section of the book, including maps, information about countries of the world, the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution, and biographies of the Presidents. Perhaps you can spend some time making a game of looking up things in the book.
We commend you for sending your child to school each morning ready to learn. The students we have worked with have been a credit to your parenting skills. Keep up the good work.

Cookies in the Classroom
Mrs. Hoffman's homeroom class was the lucky recipients of a fresh batch of sugar cookies. Thanks to our famous cook "Mrs. B", Jesse found a sticker on the bottom of his chocolate milk, therefore his class is the winner.

New Lift
CIS will be getting a new "Lift" to the stage to be more handicapped accessible. A two man crew from South Dakota began working on the installation yesterday and hope to have things completed by the end of the day. Mrs. Dickerson use the stage for music classes each day. The stage is also used as a mini classroom. Students work in small groups there for Reading, Language, and Math. ADA funds helped to pay for the project. For more information on ADA CLICK HERE.
Bullying: What can you do?
Q & A Bullying: The bystander's role
Q: My child came home from school upset because kids were picking on a classmate and wouldn't let her play with them. What advice should I give my daughter?
A: Tell your youngster that her classmate was being bullied --and that she may be able to help stop it!
There are several things she can do. If she feels safe, she could say something like, "That's not nice," and then walk away. She might invite the child who is being bullied to join her in a game of school project.
Also, remind your youngster to report bullying to a teacher or other adult when she sees it. Let her know this is not tattling, but a way to help someone who is being hurt. You can explain: "Asking an adult to help a child who is being bullied is like asking the nurse to help a child with a scraped knee.
