Governor Heineman visits Chadron Public Schools

On Tuesday, Chadron had three distinguished guests come from Lincoln.  Nebraska Commissioner of Education Dr. Roger Breed joined Governor Heineman and Senator Adams on a visit to our school.  We discussed effective strategies in our schools as well as concerns that we have for the future.       Students, parents, community, staff, administration and board members were all in attendance.  Also joining the meeting were members from the ESU #13, Chadron State College and City Manager Wayne Anderson and many more.  We appreciate the visit and hope that the effective strategies we shared can be of use to others.

From Left:  Governor Heineman, Senator Adams, and Commissioner  Breed

We would like to thank the parents who represented our schools including Sheri Daniels, Julie Downing, Bobby Greise, and Robin Bila.  Also, thank you to all the rest of the people that attended the meeting.

Happy October Birthday!

Mrs. B handed out the October Birthday Cupcakes for the 3rd and 4th grade students.  The rest of us sang "Happy Birthday" to them.

Roundup Against Drugs

To celebrate Red Ribbon Week,  students dressed as cowboys and cowgirls for the "roundup against drugs".  Several outlaws have been spotted in and around the building.

Sidewalk Complete

In an effort to make our building safe during an evacuation, we have added a sidewalk from the North exit to the parking lot.  Shane Shepard is shown her adding the finishing touches to the sidewalk.  He did a great job and we sure appreciate his work.

Bubble Gum?

The CIS after school program has a lot of fun activities planed each week. This week we had Sheri Daniels volunteer at our school.  She always has lots of great ideas and knows how to have fun with kids.  On Monday, Mrs. Daniels showed the kids how to make their very own bubble gum.  We really enjoyed the activity and appreciate the time that Mrs. Daniels was able to spend with us.

School SRO talks SAFETY to Preschool students

Officer Chrisman talks about Halloween Safety
Chadron Police Officers stopped by the Chadron Preschool and Head Start today to talk to the children about Halloween Safety.  Officer Chrisman reminded them to stay with an adult and to look both ways before crossing the street.
All the children received a stuffed animal as a  special Halloween Treat.

Out at 1:00 on Wednesday (Halloween)

Parents/Staff

Due to the football playoff game on Wednesday (October 31st),  school will be dismissed at 1:00 (district wide).  We will not be able to have an after school program at CIS because of staffing issues.  We apologize for all inconvenience.

Respectfully,
Bill Cogdill

1st Snowman

Students took advantage of what snow was left this afternoon to  build a snowman.  The one they put together earlier must have ran away for when the children came out to play - it was gone.

We ran out of snow by 2:00

New Sidewalk

In an effort to make our stage more handicap accessible, we have  begun construction of a sidewalk out the North exit of the building towards the parking lot.  This will serve as a fire escape from the stage as well as an additional route for those in the gym or lunchroom.  We want to thank the Chadron Board of Education for their support in making this possible.
This is the completed "Lift" that goes up to our stage.
The stage is used for our music classes in the morning as well as a classroom for reading, math, and language.  It serves a number of students each day.  A better lighting system was put in place over the summer when the gym lights were updated.

A new light on reading

Mrs. Hoffman found a way to make reading just a little more fun.  She used her projector to share specific words (in color) with the students.  They break the words apart and put them back together again.  Good Job Mrs. Hoffman!

Tech Conference

Staff across the district participated in the 2nd annual Tech Conference.  We spent a good part of the first session learning how to  create  QR Codes and updating our blogs.  Because you are reading this, you know about our blog spot but here is an example of how you could scan a QR Code and get information as well.  Scan the image below.

QR Code for the CIS Blog Spot
With a little practice we will be using QR Codes more and more.  You may scan these codes with your smart phone or ipad.  If you don't have these app's they are a free download.
