Old School
3rd grade students dress up for their visit to the Dawes County Museum. Student's enjoy seeing what life was like for students in the early 1900's.
4th Grade Transition to Middle School
Student Council members visited the 4th grade classrooms this week.
They answered questions about 5th grade at Chadron Middle School. Student Council members talked about open campus and passing periods. They explained that 5th grade students do not have to dress out for physical education.
Students will have their lockers on the 3rd floor of the middle school. They are the only grade to have lockers on that floor and most of their classes are right next to each other. They have a 5th grade stairwell so they don't have to worry about the older students.
Students were interested in having a new schedule and what it would look like, the length of class periods and of course having locks on their lockers. Mrs. Rogers (CMS Guidance Counselor) was there to answer those questions and assured them they would be taken care of.

Our students are looking forward to visiting the middle school on Monday (May 6th) from 8:00-9:30. We will bus over, meet the 5th grade team in the gym, tour the building and visit the classrooms.

Parent Teacher Conference Survey Results are in
In making plans for next year's Parent Teacher Conferences, we surveyed parents to see if they wanted to make any changes. The results were:
33 Reamin the same
26 Change conferences to one full day
We found that there was not an overwhelming majority on either side. As of now we will plan to keep PTC's the same as in the past. Thank you for participating in our survey.

GNT waterwise and tree planting efforts at Chadron
Here is an update on what our Chadron GNT group is working on for 2013 - call if questions or comments, thanks! Lucinda 308-430-4186
Spring and Fall, 2013 Chadron Community Hospital Memorial Garden Volunteers, hospital staff, and Girl Scout Gold Award candidates will install poured permeable pavement and plant trees and shrubs with drip irrigation and mulch. Scouts have fund-raised $4800 toward this project; the GNT group intends to support the Scouts and their project advisor to accomplish their goal of making the hospital landscape water-wise.
Spring and Fall, 2013 Chadron GNT's second year of sponsoring the tree-planting voucher program will be up and running by late April. To participate, trees must be purchased from Chadron businesses, selected from an approved tree list, planted according to approved guidelines, and inspected by a member of the Chadron Tree Board.
April 27, 2013 CSC Campus Arboretum Volunteers and CSC student service groups to plant teaching collection of shrubs (600 plts) and bunch grasses (120 plts) native to the region, lay drip irrigation, and hook irrigation to 3500-gallon above-ground water tank that is filled by Burkhiser's roof rain and snow run-off. Entire 11,000 sq ft bed to be mulched with shredded and chipped pine. (How far we get that day will depend on size of group and weather conditions.) Project to be finished by CSC staff.
April 30, 2013 Arbor Day event planting canopy trees with 5th grade students in Finnegan Park and surrounding area. Planting leaders from the Chadron Tree Board, Chadron City Parks staff and other city departments, Chadron State College staff, members of the Chadron City Parks Foundation, Nebraska Forest Service, and US Forest Service.
May 8, 2013 Kenwood School students and teachers grades 3 and 4 to plant Phase 3 of 4 of waterwise shade, windbreak, and snow catchers around North playing field at Kenwood. We plan to add some evergreen trees to the canopy trees we planted in 2012, add drip irrigation, and mulch the entire planting bed (800 linear ft - approx 4800 sq ft.) Planting leaders from the Chadron Tree Board, Chadron City Parks staff and other city departments, Chadron State College staff, members of the Chadron City Parks Foundation, Nebraska Forest Service, and US Forest Service.
May 18, 2013 Dawes County Courthouse staff and county commissioners, Delta Group Volunteers, and others from the Chadron Tree Board, Chadron City Parks staff, Chadron State College staff, Nebraska Forest Service, and US Forest Service to prepare planting beds, plant trees, install drip irrigation and apply organic mulch to canopy trees on courthouse square. This may be accomplished in two phases, one May 18 and one in the autumn.

Stand For The Silent Rally
Nebraska's State Capitol - April 5, 2013 @ 8:30 P.M.
EVERY SEVEN SECONDS A CHILD IS BULLIED.
At 8:30 P.M. on Friday, April 5, on the north steps of our State Capitol, thousands of Nebraskan students, families, teachers, and administrators will stand in unison against bullying to lay rest to this statistic once and for all.
At the event, youth motivational speaker Mike Smith will join State Senator Amanda McGill in addressing the topic of bullying and making a call to action to change the culture of our schools and hinder the growth of the bullying problem. For now, we are calling on youth statewide to literally stand all day next Friday as a sign of their support for Stand For The Silent (SFTS) and all those that have fallen victim to bullying.
To help make this happen, we’ve created a short video promoting SFTS and our rally at the State Capitol – we ask that you please share this video with as many people as possible. The time has come for us to truly stand alongside the silent and the broken.
We hope to see you, your family, your staff, and your students in attendance at this event!
