Bird Banding

Wednesday, the third grade classes took our first field trip to Chadron State Park to watch as the staff from the Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory banded some birds.  Unfortunately, for us who went in the afternoon, they did not catch any birds in their nets.  We did see a demonstration (using a stuffed bird) of the procedures for banding birds, weighing them, measuring them, and discovering their age.  We also played some "Bird Olympics" and went on a nature hike.  Even though it was a very warm afternoon we enjoyed our time at the state park.
Bus ride to the park.
