Rereading the Reading Standards

On September 5, 2014, the State Board of Education unanimously approved the newly revised English Language Arts Standards:  2014 ELA Standards.   Teachers across the district took advantage of the recent early out to review these standards.  Their focus was to prioritize the standards according to three areas (Endurance, Leverage, and Readiness). All K-12 Reading teachers worked to complete a rubric for each area.

Endurance in a standards means it has a lifelong value to the student.

Leverage means it contains knowledge ands skills that are of value across several subjects.

Lastly, readiness asks if it is a necessary prerequisite for the next grade level.
