Tree Planting

From Mrs. Piercy's Classroom

As part of the Greener Nebraska Towns celebration, students at CIS took part in a tree planting ceremony at their school with Nebraska's First Lady, Sally Ganem.  The First Lady talked to the students about the importance of trees to our community.  Seven students assisted her in planting a burr oak tree, which will be a nice addition to the trees previously planted by CIS students.

Read what two students wrote about the First Lady's visit.

Today we planted a tree with Sally Ganem. Sally Ganem is Governor Heineman's wife.  She used to be a school teacher and principal.  One kid from every class In Chadron Intermediate School was chosen to help plant the tree.  The tree was a burr oak.  I had fun watching the kids who were planting the tree, but I think the kids who were planting had more fun than I did.  I had a lot of fun watching Sally Ganem plant a tree.

Planting trees this morning was fun even though I just got to watch.  We planted a burr oak tree with First Lady of Nebraska Sally Ganem.  It was cool to get to meet her.  One student from each class got to help plant the tree.  The governor's wife talked to us about Nebraska symbols.  It was a cool experience to meet her.
